Introducing the MauPHI (Mauritius Pro-handprint Innovation) Guidebook
This Guidebook is a result of a four-year collaborative work between Sustainable Island Mauritius (SIM) and our partner Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP), triggering the process of moving towards sustainable tourism in 2018. It introduced a new and innovative way of looking at sustainability to different target groups. It invited tourism actors – particularly small- and medium-sized tour operators and hotels – in Mauritius to consider integrating sustainability as a key ingredient in their tourism products and services as well as daily operations.
As such, the SIM project addressed current challenges to a successful development of a green destination as well as the needs of tourism actors and businesses in order to meet the expectations of their customers.
This Guidebook offers a step-by-step approach, enriched with a practical toolbox that helps relevant actors utilise and apply a concept called the Mauritius Pro-Handprint Innovation (MauPHI) Framework. The tools in this guidebook were developed to fit the purposes and needs of local tourism actors, supporting them to visualise sustainability trends and anticipate future risks and opportunities. In this regard, the SIM project team applied research and data collection activities to analyse tourism megatrends, global/local challenges, the tourism value chain in Mauritius, and the relevant tourism stakeholders in the country.
This Guidebook is free, super easy to use and can be tailored to the individual circumstances of any small to medium sized organisation and seeks to empower all interested Mauritian tourism actors to develop, deliver, and promote sustainable tourism products and services that generate positive economic, societal, environmental, and cultural impacts.
